SUMMARY:Tap Talks with Jim Myers!
DESCRIPTION:At the Tuesday, May 13th Tap Talk at North Water Brewing, Jim Myers, pharmacist and longtime owner of the famed Thompson Drug Store, will reflect on the golden age of pharmacies and his 52 years serving Portage County. Thompson Drugs closed in 2004 after 128 years in continuous operation.\nToday, at 94, Jim Myers is still going strong. He’s an activeboard member at Kent Historical Society and Museum, three-time president of Kent City Schools board, and has acquired alegendary reputation as a knowledgeable historian and advocate for all things Kent. For his efforts, he was awarded the Kent Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award.\nIn reflecting on his long career at Thompson Drugs, Myers recalled how much he enjoyed customers and employees alike. “We were a family,” he said. “I enjoyed every minute of it.”\nTap Talks was initiated by Don Schjeldahl, the creator of North Water Brewing, as a way to bring the community together for conversation about life in Kent, Kent’s history, and issues of the day that impact us all. It’s also a chance to enjoy an array of locally-brewed artisan ales and beers. Tap Talks are sponsored by Kent Historical Society and scheduled monthly at 7 pm at North Water Brewing, 101 Crain Avenue in Kent.\nThose who attend will have an opportunity to meet Jim Myers and share personal stories about Kent in the days when Thompson Drugs was an important part of our community.\n
