Tap Talks with Jeff St. Clair

Tap Talks with Jeff St. Clair

On April 21st, 2026, Jeff St. Clair, the man with the great radio voice and Midday Host of Ideastream’s WKSU, will appear on the Tap Talk stage to discuss his career in radio. He’ll talk about the past and present of WKSU and engage the audience in a dialog about the current state of journalism including the influence of Al-generated content.

Jeff St. Clair is an award-winning science reporter whose work has appeared on WKSU and NPR.

He’s been a folk and classical music host, fund-drive producer, local “Morning Edition” host, “All Things Considered” host, and host of midday programs. He’s won national and regional awards for best news writing, health coverage, and use of sound.

According to Jeff, “I never thought I’d work in radio, but a lucky break landed me a 25-year (and counting) career in broadcasting. I always wanted to be a scientist–that’s one reason I studied chemistry in college and went to work at a testing lab right out of school. But I found bench chemistry not as exciting as I had hoped. Luckily, a friend told me about a part-time job at WKSU, a station that I had been listening to since I was a teenager. I became a production assistant, embraced where life led me, and went back to school to get a masters in journalism at Kent State. I’m still learning.”

Tap Talks is sponsored by Kent Historical Society and North Water Brewing, as a way to bring the community together for conversation about life in Kent, Kent’s history, and issues of the day that impact us all. It’s also a chance to enjoy an array of locally-brewed artisan ales and beers. Tap Talks are scheduled monthly at 7 pm at North Water Brewing, 101 Crain Avenue in Kent.

Those who attend will have an opportunity to meet Jeff St. Clair and share your thoughts about the current state of the fourth estate and the role it plays in our democracy.
